Economic Calendar & High-Impact Events

4 min read ยท By Trader X

The economic calendar is an essential tool for every gold trader, listing scheduled data releases, central bank meetings, and speeches that can significantly impact XAUUSD prices. Events are typically categorized by expected impact: high, medium, and low. High-impact events for gold include US Non-Farm Payrolls (first Friday of each month), Consumer Price Index (CPI), Federal Reserve interest rate decisions (FOMC meetings), and GDP releases.

When trading around economic events, timing and preparation are critical. Most high-impact US data is released at 13:30 UTC, while FOMC decisions are announced at 19:00 UTC. Gold can move $20-50 within minutes of major releases, creating both opportunities and risks. Professional traders either position themselves ahead of expected outcomes or wait for the initial volatility to settle before entering trades in the direction of the post-release trend.

Beyond US data, gold traders should monitor economic releases from China (the world's largest gold consumer), the European Central Bank policy decisions, and geopolitical developments globally. Wars, sanctions, trade disputes, and political instability tend to increase gold demand as investors seek safe-haven protection. Maintaining awareness of the economic calendar prevents being caught off-guard by scheduled volatility events.
