Trading carries a high risk of loss
Contracts for difference (CFDs), spot forex and other leveraged products are complex and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly. Most retail clients who trade them lose money. You can lose all of the money you deposit, and with some brokers you can lose more than you deposit.
Leverage magnifies losses
Leverage lets you open a position much larger than your deposit. A small price move against you can therefore cause a large loss, trigger a margin call or close your positions automatically, often at a worse price than you expected — especially around major news, at market opening or when liquidity is low.
Offshore brokers offer fewer protections
Some brokers we list are regulated outside the UK and EU, or not by a major regulator. These firms may offer much higher leverage, may not provide negative-balance protection, and are usually not covered by a compensation scheme or an independent ombudsman. If the firm fails or a dispute arises, you may not get your money back. Always check which company you are opening an account with and how it is regulated.
Costs reduce your returns
Spreads, commissions, overnight financing, currency conversion and other fees are charged whether you win or lose, and add up quickly if you trade often.
